Audit the Price, Not Just the Paycheck
Why It Matters
We usually measure what a job gives us in dollars, benefits, or advancement. But work also involves exchanges that never appear on a pay stub. Time, energy, confidence, relationships, peace, growth, purpose, and opportunity are part of the equation too.
Try This
Once a month, conduct a simple two-sided audit:
What is this job giving me?
Think about income, stability, purpose, relationships, experience, flexibility, opportunity, and growth.
What is this job costing me?
Consider time, energy, peace, confidence, relationships, health, or opportunities elsewhere.
You aren't looking for a perfect balance sheet. You're paying attention to the full exchange.
Quick Tip
Don't judge your job from one unusually good or bad week. Look for patterns over time.
Reflect
If your paycheck disappeared from the equation for a moment, what else are you receiving, and what are you spending?
