Week 4: My Garden of Healing Herbs
Over the past few weeks, I’ve shared a glimpse into the plants that make my garden more than just a place of beauty. We’ve explored the Passion Fruit Leaf, the Leaf of Life, and Spanish Oregano, each one chosen not only for what it adds to my space but for how it supports my wellness and calm.
This week, I want to bring it all together and share how these plants, and a few others, are part of my daily life. My garden was designed with intention. Every leaf, every sprig, every tree was planted because it gives something back: healing, resilience, or calm. Even many of my succulents are edible. My vision has always been to create beauty that also nourishes.
🌿 Leaf of Life
This plant is my go-to for hydration and inflammation. I’ll eat it fresh right from the yard or brew it into tea when my joints ache. Its ability to replicate itself endlessly reminds me of resilience and renewal, two lessons I carry into my own wellness journey.
🌿 Passion Fruit Leaf
While the sweet fruit is well-loved, the leaf itself is powerful too. It’s rich in nutrients, helps calm anxiety, and supports joint health. The taste is bitter, but with a squeeze of lemon it becomes manageable. For me, it’s less about flavor and more about the healing properties.
🌿 Spanish Oregano
This herb connects me deeply to my Belizean and Jamaican roots. It flavors my curries, stews, and rice and peas, bringing boldness to every meal. Beyond cooking, I love to crush the leaves and breathe in their aroma, it brings instant calm. And as tea, it relaxes my muscles and settles my spirit.
🌿 Fever Grass (Lemongrass Family)
This plant came into my garden through family, passed down like a tradition. When brewed as tea, it fills the air with a lemony fragrance and creates the perfect ritual: quiet music, soft lighting, and a calming cup in hand. In Jamaica, it’s a morning staple, and I’ve adopted that ritual myself.
🌿 Beyond the Cup
My herbs don’t just live in the kitchen. I also use them in my hair care—boiling them into rinses that strengthen and refresh. For me, these plants are reminders that what we put inside our bodies can also bless the outside.
✨ Closing Reflection
As I close this “Welcome to My Garden” series, I want you to see what I see: a garden that heals, calms, and teaches resilience. Every herb carries a story, and every story carries a lesson for wellness.
