Reflection and Vision: Maybe the Time Is Now
There was a time when I believed some dreams belonged to the future.
Not next year.
Not five years from now.
But someday.
The kind of someday we often reserve for retirement, when life slows down, and responsibilities become lighter.
For years, I carried a list of things I hoped to have time to pursue eventually.
Traveling to conferences.
Sharing ideas with educators beyond my local community.
Participating in vendor events.
Growing organizations that support children, families, and educators.
Exploring new possibilities that stretched beyond the routines of daily life.
They weren't forgotten dreams.
They were postponed dreams.
Like many people, I spent years focused on the responsibilities in front of me. Raising children, supporting family, serving my community, and helping others achieve their goals often took priority over my own aspirations.
And I don't regret that.
Those years mattered.
Those responsibilities mattered.
The people I cared for mattered.
But reflection has a way of helping us see our lives differently.
Over the past few months, I have found myself revisiting dreams that had been quietly waiting in the background.
Not because they suddenly appeared.
But because I finally had the space to notice them.
What surprised me most was realizing that many of the things I once imagined doing someday were not as far away as I thought.
Some opportunities simply required me to say yes.
Some required me to believe I was capable.
Others required me to stop waiting for the perfect time.
Vision begins with seeing possibilities.
Reflection helps us recognize what has been there all along.
As I look ahead, I am realizing that the next chapter of my life may not be about creating entirely new dreams. It may be about giving attention to the dreams that have patiently waited for their turn.
The dreams that were placed on hold while I cared for others.
The dreams that seemed impractical during busier seasons of life.
The dreams that remained quietly present, even when I wasn't actively pursuing them.
This season has reminded me that there is a difference between giving up on a dream and simply postponing it.
Sometimes life requires us to focus on what is most important in the moment.
But eventually, there comes a time to revisit the things we once set aside.
To ask ourselves what still matters.
To ask ourselves what still excites us.
To ask ourselves what vision we want for the years ahead.
For me, reflection has created clarity.
And clarity has strengthened my vision.
I don't know exactly what every step ahead will look like.
But I know this:
I am no longer waiting for someday.
I am learning to embrace the opportunities that exist today.
Because sometimes the future we imagine isn't waiting years away.
Sometimes it begins the moment we decide to believe that the time is now.
🌿 Reflection Question:
What dream have you been postponing for "someday," and what would happen if you gave it your attention today?
