Separate Discomfort From Distress

Why It Matters
Growth isn't always comfortable. Learning something new, receiving constructive feedback, taking on an unfamiliar responsibility, or stretching beyond what you already know can create discomfort. But repeatedly feeling depleted, unsafe, diminished, or emotionally overwhelmed shouldn't automatically be labeled “growth.”

Try This
When something at work feels difficult, ask yourself:

Am I uncomfortable because I'm growing?
or
Am I distressed because something repeatedly feels unhealthy?

Then look beyond the emotion itself. Consider what is causing it, how often it happens, whether it improves with support, and what happens to you afterward.

Quick Tip
Don't make the decision based only on whether something feels hard. Pay attention to the pattern.

Reflect
Is this experience stretching me, or is it repeatedly wearing me down?

These now have a much more consistent SILWELL-C Quick Wellness Tip format, and each one gives the reader something concrete to do, not just wellness advice.

At its core, SILWELL-C is more than a program; it’s a movement: a reminder that when staff lead with wellness, schools grow with strength, calm, and confidence.
